During autumn, the slopes of Mount Iwate are clothed in a complex palette of colours, where the deep green of the forest intertwines with the yellows, reds and oranges of the autumn foliage. At sunset, the mountain is illuminated by the ‘daylight’ of the setting sun, creating a mysterious effect: the dark grey-green dial of the SBGW303 captures this unique moment in time. The patterned dial, reflecting the striated contours of Mount Iwate, further enhances the twilight atmosphere of the autumn sunset. Another distinctive feature of this view, the ‘Night Light’ produced by the moon, is captured on the dial. As the sun begins to slide westward, the moon remains gleaming white, but its light gradually intensifies, transforming into a dazzling golden hue. Just as the word ‘moon’ is known in haiku as a seasonal word for autumn, there is an ancient Japanese tradition of admiring the autumn moon. The luminous golden Grand Seiko logo on the SBGW303 symbolises this moon. The watch is powered by the brand’s hand-wound mechanical movement Calibre 9S64. The mirror-like distortion-free finish of the case is achieved by Zaratsu polishing by skilled Takumi craftsmen, while the multi-faceted indexes and hour and minute hands enhance legibility, bringing to life the many expressions of light and shadow in every detail.
